The building
Designed by Richard Meier, the High Museum of Art Atlanta was named one of the 10 best works of American architecture of the 1980s by the American Institute of Architects. When you travel to see the museum with your Atlanta car rentals you will see a large white structure contrasting the bright blue sky. More recently at the High Museum of Art Atlanta was the renovations done by architect Renzo Piano's. The expansion doubled the size of the space while maintaining a minimalist look. All the galleries are interlocked and easy to navigate using the spiraling ramp that circles an atrium and branches off to each level of the museum. These buildings, spaces and courtyards are all beautiful. You will love the way that all of the connections in materials and space are made.
The works
The museum is home to a growing body of contemporary art, a wonderful decorative arts section, beautiful 19th century landscape paintings, and five centuries of European painting and sculpture, as well as African masks and ceremonial figures. Big exhibitions always are coming in to the High Museum of Art Atlanta. Past exhibits included works by Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Rockwell, Michelangelo and other famous people in art history.
A collection of artists
With over 11,000 pieces of art you will have a lot to see at the High Museum of Art Atlanta when you travel with your Atlanta car rentals. Special times
Special events are always being held at the High Museum of Art Atlanta. A regular event at the museum is Friday Night Jazz, where one Friday evening a month the museum is open late with live jazz and cocktails. Another major past event the museum put together was called: "Love, Art, Valentine's at the High", and it had such a fantastic combination of events to enjoy for only $40 (per couple). They had music from an orchestra on one level, a Latin orchestra and dance group in another wing. They had massage and paraffin wax rooms. Admission to the event also included visits to both the exhibitions for the Louvre and the Chinese Terracotta Army.

The High Museum of Art Atlanta is located on 1280 Peachtree St, wedged between Peachtree and North 17th Street. Admission is $11 for children, $15 for students and seniors, and $18 for adults. The High Museum of Art Atlanta is open every day except for Monday, Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 12 pm to 5 pm. Advance reservation is highly recommended.
